Basketball undoubtedly meshes with Filipino culture as we can see with our PBA. The NBA is no stranger to this, we’ve had stars visit us before — Kobe Bryant, Derrick Rose, James Harden, Chris Paul, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and others. And we also currently have players that see high-level play as imports in Japan.
Looking at trending Google searches every day, I’ve noticed that a big chunk of it is NBA results. So I thought of writing this guide to help our fellow man watch games instead of just reading about the results in the search results.
What are NBA League Passes?
NBA League Passes are subscriptions to watch NBA games online on NBA TV, just like Netflix and HBO Go, and other streaming services. There are different types of League Passes, depending on the type of fan you are:
- League Pass – allows you to watch all games
- League Pass Premium – same as League Pass, but allows you to watch simultaneously on 2 devices
- Team Pass – allows you to watch all games of a specific team
- Game Pass – allows you to watch a game of your choice; usually these are bundled in a set (i.e., 8 Games, 3 Games, etc)
There are also variations of subscriptions based on payment period — like the whole season, monthly, weekly, and daily. Additionally, there’s also a 7 day trial for most subscriptions once you sign up.
How do I subscribe to an NBA League Pass?
If you visit the site or download the app, you can apply for a 7-day trial. Take note that the choices you are provided are a bit different if you check the app compared with the actual site itself.
Buying in the NBA Watch site
On the site, you can also buy a season-long pass, as well as monthly or weekly subscriptions. On the app, you can only buy monthly or weekly ones. The best deal seems to be the season-long pass as it’s a one-time payment and it ends as the season ends, unlike the others.
Once you’ve selected your subscription, you can use any GCash debit card (AMEX or GCash Mastercard) to pay for it. Personally, I wasn’t able to pay using any of my cards directly due to errors, but I was able to use my linked Paypal to pay for it instead.
Buying in the NBA app
On the app, buying is simple once you’ve linked your Google Play to your GCash. You can directly pay without any fuss.
Buying from GCash
You can also buy from Buy Load, under Lifestyle Load. Check under Daily Deals or under PayTV Categories. The selections are a 1 month League Pass for Php 485 or a 3 game Choice Pass for Php 85.
After buying the load, you will be receiving an SMS with instructions on how to redeem the promo. Basically, you just need to input the PIN into the site to avail of the subscription.
